Kaikoura Pressure Sewer Upgrades
In 2016, Kaikoura was struck by a devastating earthquake, which had significant consequences for the town's infrastructure. One of the critical casualties of this natural disaster was the gravity sewer system that ran parallel to Lyell Creek. The earthquake had inflicted severe damage on this system, rendering it unusable and unsafe due to unstable ground conditions.
In response to this crisis, Stewart Civil stepped in to address the issue. They undertook a comprehensive project that involved the installation of 20 fiberglass lift stations, ranging in depth from 2 meters to 6 meters. Additionally, pump lines were installed to connect these lift stations to the main pressure sewer on Beach Rd. This strategic placement of the new pump tank necessitated the replacement of a significant portion of the existing gravity sewer infrastructure, redirecting it to the location of the new tank.
The earthquake of 2016 had a profound impact on Kaikoura, particularly on its gravity sewer system along Lyell Creek. Stewart Civil's efforts to install fiberglass lift stations and associated pump lines, while relocating the pump tank, were crucial steps toward restoring the town's sewer infrastructure
